UCLA MAAPP: Project Description
UCLA Mapping Asian American Political Potential (MAAPP) is an interdisciplinary collaborative project
created by UCLA students and faculty. UCLA MAAPP was created with the intent of making voting data
more user-friendly and accessible for the greater community who want to know more about where Asian
American voter registration and turnout rates are high and where more mobilization efforts are needed.
We envision that the data provided by the MAAPP website could be used in the following ways:
- As a reference for leaders and community members to better understand the politics of voters in their
own neighborhoods
- A resource for community organizations, activists, and campaigns to inform registration drives and
Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) initiatives
- A tool for researchers to reference in their studies on Asian American registration and vote behavior
This is a pilot project which visualizes registration and voting patterns among Asian Americans in Los Angeles
county. Our goal is to expand the project to include other areas with large Asian American populations.
The UCLA MAAPP Project is funded by the AAPI Policy Initiative Grant sponsored by the
UCLA Asian American Studies Center.
